why does it seem like my roll of film goes on forever

Why does it seem like my roll of film goes on forever?

I have a 1967 Minolta srT-101 and i use the film kodak 400. I'm not sure how many pictures you can take with that, i heard around 24-36, but it seems like i'm taking more than that.?? do i just take out the film after i take 36 pictures or how do you tell when you're out of film. Also how can you tell how many pictures you've taken so far?

The Best Answer:

If you are using 135-24 film, then 24 to 25 exposures are common

If you are using 135-36, then 36 to 37.

If you seem to be able to take more than there are on the roll of film, then it did not load properly.

Does the rewind knob rotate when you advance the film?

Here is a link to the user manual for your camera. It will solve a lot of possible frustrations trying to use it using the "try and fail" mode

http://www.butkus.org/chinon/minolta/min…

You will need to find a new battery for the light meter in the camera. Take it into a proper camera shop and have them sell you one

Can anyone give me good ideas for a watermark

Can anyone give me good ideas for a watermark?

I need to add it to my pics. Well, I want an image as a watermark, like that has some kinda design and then the name of my photography sets.
Also, erm I can't decide a name for my photography. Which one should I choose:
(-) Zeeshan Hasan Khan Photography
(-) ZeeshanHK Photography
(-) Zeekaye photography
(-) ????? ??? ??? ????????? (This is in urdu, just tell me how it looks)

The Best Answer:

If your goal is to protect your posted images from theft, the best watermark would be is as follows:

Add the watermark, "? 2011, Zeeshan Hasan Khan Photography, All rights reserved", right through the middle of your images destined for Internet posting.

This of course will only be on images that you have reduced to internet ready images, 600 x 400 @ 72 DPI. ALWAYS remember to save any changed files as a new name so you do NOT overwrite your original file. It is also an excellent idea to always back up your originals to a CD or DVD before you do any post production, thus saving all your original file in case an accident does happen and an original file is lost or overwritten.

How to take a photograph in which the background has to be blurred and the object im focusing has to be promin

How to take a photograph in which the background has to be blurred and the object im focusing has to be promin?

Can anyone tell me How to take a photograph in which the background has to be blurred and the object im focusing has to be prominent.
i recently got a D90 Nikon camara and Nikkor 55-300mm VR lens…
thanks

The Best Answer:

There are only three factors that affect your Depth of Field (DOF):

1) The focal length of the lens.
2) The f-stop used.
3) The subject distance.

This site will help you learn about DOF: http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html You can use the DOF Calculator to compute your DOF for any combination of the three factors imaginable. Since you choose the make and model of your camera the results are accurate. Here are a some examples:

55mm @ f4.5 focused on a subject at 10.0' your DOF is from 9.18' to 11.0'. Anything from 0.82' in front of your subject (9.18' in front of your camera) to anything 1.0' behind your subject will be in focus.

55mm @ f16 focused on a subject at 10.0' your DOF is from 7.6' to 14.6'. Anything from 2.4' in front of your subject (7.6' in front of your camera) to anything 4.6' behind your subject will be in focus.

300mm @ f5.6 focused on a subject at 10.0' your DOF is from 9.97' to 10.0'. Anything from 0.03' in front of your subject (9.97' in front of your camera) to 0.0' behind your subject will be in focus. For all intents and purposes this is zero DOF and only suitable if you're photographing a flat wall. Stop down to f16 and your DOF is 0.1' in front of and behind your subject – about 1-1/4".

Although the subject distance in the examples remained constant the effects of changing focal length and f-stop is readily apparent.

Renting/Hiring a DSLR camera

Renting/Hiring a DSLR camera?

I am really interested in renting a Nikon D5000 from a trusted website for a few days and i was wondering whether or not anyone knew any reasonable trustworthy places to rent from.
I was looking at renting the camera for a few days and taking the camera overseas to Paris for a day so i was just wondering whether it matters if you cant take it out of the country or not?
Thank you for reading and hopefully replying and attaching a website perhaps so i can check it out?
Thanks

Additional Details

Sam: Thanks for the websites, i checked them out and found this website ( http://www.flutteroo.co.uk/ppc/?a=14125&network=ukppc&gclid=CIHV7qLIn6kCFQoZ4QodThM1tg ) off the gumtree website but i can never trust these things right?

badfish: do you think maybe a second hand camera shop might offer some renting time? And i agree with what you mean about the physical advantages of getting it in person. And i see what you mean about trying to figure out the camera controls. My friend has a Nikon D5000 but i don't think she'll let me borrow hers hence why i'm looking at the renting sites. Maybe she could teach me the controls if i do decide to rent it? But it's early days i might not end up doing it.
Thanks for the contribution i really appreciate it

The Best Answer:

That would be in the literature the company will provide themselves. It may be diffrent for every different company you ask. I would strongly suggest that you rent from a physical store in town so that you can ask theses questions to someone who works for them, as well as the much more logical setup of picking it up and dropping it off, not shipping around the country.

P.S I've had my camera for 3 years now. And I just figured out yesterday that the 30 second marker on the mirror lockup is not the exposure but the timer! No wonder my mirror lock up pictures never came out. Any new camera takes alot of time to learn how to use. When I first got it it was a few days before I understood which card option was the import option. What I worry about it that you'll spend your holiday trying to figure out the problems that arise with the camera. Or even spend that money to rent it and not get any pictures.

Good photographers in victoria,Australia?

Looking for some photographers that arent to exspensive and are good.. they need to be in Victoria,Australia :)

The Best Answer:

Although Cat Lover is definitely wrong (this is Y! Answers English not just for US), you may have a better chance with the local phonebook from Victoria. Yahoo! is primarily a Search utility so if you type "victoria australia photographer" in the Search box at the top of this page, you may be able to find what you are looking for in one of the results.

How to take pictures of star trails

How to take pictures of star trails?

I want to take pictures of star trails.
BUT!

My Canon 7D camera only has 30 second exposure time. And if I should take pictures of star trails I would need more like 1-2 hours :p
So should I just take 30 second exposure time many times and then edit them together using photoshop?

And how do I do this in photoshop?

Additional Details

I do have a BULB feature, but holding the button down for 1 hour is pretty hard. Especially without shaking. And just a little shake ruin the whole picture! :(

The Best Answer:

Buy a locking remote release to keep the shutter open as long as you want. However, you need to check in your Owner's Manual for any precautions needed when making long exposures. Also, as the sensor heats up digital noise becomes more problematic. You'll want to pick a clear, cool night far away from any sources of light pollution. You'll also need at least one fully charged spare battery.

How many pictures will a 4gb sd card hold

How many pictures will a 4gb sd card hold?

My camera is 12.1mp and the average image size is about 4.5mb, so how many pictures will I be able to store on a 4gb card?

Thank you!

Additional Details

I have done multiple google searches and have come up blank. Hence the reason why I am asking on here.

The Best Answer:

you can also do some simple math

one gb is ~1000mb

you have 4gb, therefore 4000mb

4000/4.5= 888 pictures

so about 900 give or take, which is plenty.

My SD Memory cards aren't working

My SD Memory cards aren't working?

I have two cameras: a digital Kodak EasyShareM380 and a flip Jazz DV151 digital camcorder. I've been using two SD memory cards (San Disk Ultra II) one's a 2gb; the other is an 8gb. I've had a problem in the past where if I took the memory card from one camera and put it in the other, any information previously stored wouldn't show up unless I hooked it up to the computer, then I could get the information off of the cards. Today, I got 3 new SD memory cards (all San Disk Ultra 4, 8gb) and put them in both cameras to make sure the cameras read them (as requested by my dad). Now my first two memory cards (the Ultra II's) don't work at all: if I take a picture, it doesn't show up on the camera or the computer, but the camera still recognizes it's in the card slot. Could someone please tell me why this would happen, or fix it, or prevent it from happening again?

The Best Answer:

Well imagine that. You do not ever switch a card from one camera to another – these devices simply don't work that way. Any memory card, once formatted in the camera as it needs to be, is then specific to that camera.

You've probably destroyed both cards with these faulty handling methods. Buy two new cards and do not switch them – fatal mistake.
